More than the courtroom – impacts in the community
The firm’s commitment to client advocacy is equaled only by its commitment to the community. Our flagship initiatives are The Brewer Storefront, the firm’s community impact law center, and The Brewer Foundation, which supports a broad range of community initiatives and educational programs.
Founded in 1995, the Brewer Storefront provides advocacy to communities which do not possess the resources to access sophisticated legal representation. Since its inception, the Storefront has been at the “tip of the spear” in dozens of high-profile community impact matters. It has proudly established legal precedent that effects long-term change to many in need.
At Brewer, each of our professionals is given an opportunity participate in the services provided by the Storefront. All professionals are encouraged to become invested in the causes, clients, and communities the Storefront serves.
The Storefront’s work has captured the attention of legal scholars, public policy advocates, and elected officials working to ensure that all are treated with justice, fairness, and equality.
In furtherance of this work, in 2024, the Storefront initiated a comprehensive statewide effort to ensure that Texas school boards operate in compliance with the Voting Rights Act.
“[This initiative] will promote democratic principles and voter equality at an important time,” says William A. Brewer III, chairman of the Storefront. “We believe our political institutions work best when they give all voters an opportunity to elect candidates of their choosing.”
Access & Opportunity: A Leading Voice in Education
The Foundation supports a range of community initiatives, with a special emphasis on developing, overseeing, and funding a growing array of educational programs.
Among these are the Brewer Foundation Future Leaders program (FLP) and Brewer Foundation/New York University International Public Policy Forum (IPPF).
The FLP is an academic and leadership development program that benefits students from Dallas Independent School District and FLP alumni in college. The program has been recognized by the Texas State Board of Education and Texas Governor’s Office.
The IPPF is the first and only competition that gives high school students around the globe the opportunity to engage in written and oral debates on issues of public policy. Thousands of students participate each year.
Over its history, the Foundation has contributed more than $25 million to more than 60 charities in areas such as medicine, the arts, and human rights.
All the firm’s professionals are given the opportunity to support the Foundation – and its impact on future generations.
