ATLANTA

King & Spalding's Atlanta office was established in 1885. We now have more than 350 attorneys who engage in a diverse and sophisticated legal practice for both domestic and international clients. The Atlanta attorneys work within the following firm-wide practice groups: Business Litigation, Construction & Procurement, Corporate Finance, Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation, Financial Restructuring, Financial Transactions, Intellectual Property, Labor and Employment, Mergers & Acquisitions, Private Equity, Real Estate, Special Matters & Government Investigations, Tax, Tort Litigation & Environmental.

King & Spalding has a long tradition of supporting community service and pro bono work. Our lawyers are involved in responsible community service touching everything from children's issues and affordable housing to leadership positions with the Chamber of Commerce. Attorneys in the Atlanta office have financed and constructed four homes for Habitat for Humanity, an activity in which our summer associates participated, and built our fifth house in the summer of 2002.

This widespread, significant involvement of King & Spalding lawyers in community service provides a ready avenue for associates to pursue their own interests in virtually every area of community service or pro bono activity. Some of the many local organizations and institutions in which Atlanta attorneys play significant roles include the American Red Cross, Atlanta Legal Aid Society, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Atlanta Girls School, Clean Air Campaign, Cool Girls, Georgia Asian Pacific American Bar Association, Habitat for Humanity, Morehouse College, YMCA, United Way, and the Georgia Justice Project.

The Atlanta office continues to offer lateral hiring opportunities to exceptional attorneys. In the past, we have attracted such stellar individuals as Judge Griffin B. Bell and former U.S. Senator, Samuel A. Nunn, among others. A good deal of time and effort is invested in lateral attorneys' successful integration into the firm and our practice. Lateral attorneys enjoy many of the same benefits as attorneys who commence their careers with us as well as special programs geared towards their particular needs. Laterals participate in local and firm-wide orientations, our Link Program and various K&S University and practice group training programs.

Summer associates generally rotate among three or more practice groups, spending a minimum of two weeks in each group. All summer associates who work for the firm for eight weeks or longer will spend a one-week rotation on the "Pro Bono Practice Group," working on significant pro bono matters. For students interested in public service work, the firm has a policy of sponsoring second half public service clerkships for summer associates who spend the first half of the summer with King & Spalding by continuing the summer associate's salary during the second half clerkship.

In Atlanta, the starting salary for new associates in 2002 was $100,000. The firm pays new associates in Atlanta a signing-bonus of $10,000. Judicial clerks receive an additional $5,000 bonus. After their first year of practice, our associates are eligible for competitive annual productivity bonuses.

HOUSTON

The Houston office was established in 1995 with three lawyers. It has since grown to over 75 attorneys and is currently the largest presence in Houston of any firm not based in Texas. Our attorneys engage in litigation and transactional practices, including a thriving cross-border energy and corporate practice.

Lawyers in the Houston litigation practice handle a full range of complex civil litigation, arbitration and mediation including contract and corporate disputes, antitrust, toxic tort and product liability. Houston transactional lawyers handle a wide variety of transactions, including sophisticated mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance and securities matters, general corporate transactions and regulated industry matters. We also have a vibrant international corporate practice based in Houston, representing both U.S. and non-U.S. clients in a broad array of international corporate and energy transactions worldwide, including structuring cross-border joint ventures, business alliances and mergers and acquisitions. The diversity of the Houston practice is represented in the diversity of its lawyers. At least eight Houston transactional lawyers were born abroad, and twice that many are fluent in at least one foreign language.

What sets King & Spalding's Houston office apart from other Houston firms is our unique combination of the entrepreneurial spirit of a mid-size office and the institutional strength and stability of one of the nation's finest firms. Our Summer Associate program strives to ensure that each participant experiences a variety of work in his or her areas of interest. Although nearly all of our lawyers participate in our summer program activities, summer associates are also assigned specific partner and associate mentors who ensure a smooth introduction to the firm. We also host a number of social activities to help summer associates become better acquainted with our attorneys and Houston.

We are proud of our growth in the Houston market. We believe that we offer tremendous opportunities for new and experienced lawyers who are willing to strive for excellence in their professional development, who seek a ground-floor opportunity to help build a young office of a well-known national firm, who want exciting domestic and international practice opportunities, and who enjoy a diverse work environment.

WASHINGTON, D.C.

The Washington office, established in 1979, combines one of the most sophisticated and profitable practices in the country with the more informal atmosphere of a 90-lawyer office. The Washington office's unique legislative, regulatory, transactional and litigation specialties have created a thriving and expanding full-service practice in the nation's capital.

The Washington office continues to offer lateral hiring opportunities to exceptional attorneys. A good deal of time and effort is invested in lateral attorneys' successful integration into the firm and our practice. Lateral attorneys enjoy many of the same benefits as attorneys who begin their careers with us as well as special programs geared towards their particular needs. Laterals participate in local and firm-wide orientations, our Link Program and various K&S University and practice group training programs.

As the office continues its steady growth, junior lawyers find themselves assuming primary responsibility for national profile cases, and working directly with the partner supervising the case. Our associates typically deal personally with clients during their first months of practice. New associates are assigned to specific practice groups and have the opportunity to work on cases which cross practice areas.

Our summer program, which was recently ranked 4th out of 40 in D.C. by The American Lawyer, seeks to accommodate each summer associate's practice area interest and to provide a realistic work experience. We assign two advisors to each summer associate to ensure that the summer experience is professionally rewarding and enjoyable. The Washington Hiring Committee places a premium on the personality and perspective of its lawyers. We are interested in interviewing second and third-year law students, judicial clerks, and students involved in graduate programs who have demonstrated excellence in skills required by the practice of law and whose diversity, personal qualities and interests impact positively on the firm as a whole. The firm's commitment to hiring talented and balanced lawyers accounts for the supportive and friendly work environment typical in the Washington office.

King & Spalding believes that public service enriches the firm and provides an opportunity for attorneys to diversify their backgrounds. Our office provides 60 hours of pro bono service per lawyer in the office each year. Some of the many local organizations and institutions in which our Washington attorneys play significant roles include the United Way, Race for the Cure, Lawyers Have Heart, Martha's Table, and a continuing partnership with Anacostia Senior High School in Washington. Although office-wide activities are scheduled frequently, the amount of time devoted to civic activity is left to the judgment and discretion of the individual lawyer, and is supported and encouraged by the firm. Summer associates interested in public service work may elect to spend second half clerkships with an approved public service organization. After spending the first half of the summer with King & Spalding, the firm will then continue the students' salaries through the second half clerkship.
